Day 17: Eating Leon (Leon)
When I was in Jiquilillo, everyone had at least one tip on where to eat in Leon and they were all spot on.
The city has some really great eating and some beautiful spots to while away the hours blogging or catching up with your Whatsapp correspondence.
Here are my favourites:
Imbir - it lays a bold claim to be Nicaragua's only Polish-Sri Lankan restaurant! I had Pollo Mantequilla (buttered chicken) which was amazing. Service was incredibly slow but they knocked some drinks off the bill. Main around $8.
Pan y Paz - cool little French bakery set around a gorgeous mini courtyard. I mainly got my baguette on here, but they also do ham and cheese plates. I can highly recommend their individual lemon meringue pies! Baguette and a drink about €5.
Kiss Me - when a hot Dutch guy recommended this place to me, I misunderstood and thought it was an invitation! (Thank God I held back!) It is in fact a cool little ice cream place with an awesome array of flavours including 'Fruit Punch in the Face' which is a vodka fruit sorbet. Two scoops about €1.20.
Paz de Luna- trendy little hipster spot, again set round a garden courtyard, serving European faves like French toast, alongside big old bowls of pasta and an array of omelettes, salads and other treats. Pasta and drink about $7.
El Bogedon - amazing Cuban food and plenty of it. Choose pork, chicken, fish or veggie, plus your side and receive a giant plateful of yummy. Main $6. Delicious! Eat out back under the stars :-)
Cafe Nicaraguita - shabby chic place serving up great value plates of traditional Nica fare. Chicken dish around $6 plus cocktails on 2-4-1 at $3-4!
La Union - this is the supermarket where you can buy emergency Twix bars.
Bon appetit!
