Day 13: I surrender! (Leon)

Day 13: I surrender! (Leon)

I give up! I've been beaten into submission by Leon and now I'm doing what I always do when life gets too much; sitting in bed with a Twix watching Netflix.

I hurtled into Nicaragua's second largest city in a shuttle bus yesterday, along with some of the Rancho Esperanza crew, and it's been pretty full on since.

We had a great goodbye meal together last night (very sad to say 'adios' to such good people *sob*), but things went a bit off course when I got back to my hostel.

My room was close to the kitchen and I was forced to listen to some girl drone on incessantly about her ex-boyfriend into the small hours, as well as some dick strumming away on a guitar like a Year 7 in music class.

This morning I woke up with the serious grumps and decided to move hostels - I accidentally upgraded myself a bit far and well...I'm typing this from inside a four poster bed! It's so high, I literally have to climb in!

So after this morning's false start I headed out to see what Leon had to offer. It started so well, I visited Museo de Arte which has the best collection of contemporary Latin American art in the world, and ate lunch at Paz y Pan, a gorgeous little French bakery, but by the afternoon I think my brain startled to melt. I couldn't make a decision or read a map to save my life.

Leon is an incredible city, but it's completing unrelenting; the heat, the traffic and the noise were just too much for my poor brain to take after such an incredibly chill four days by the beach where even my meal times were decided for me (it was essentially Guide camp with rum).

So, I did what anyone would do. I came back to the Casa and listened to 10 straight episodes of The Archers, before heading out the supermarket to stock up on water, Coke and the aforementioned Twixes.

Walking home from the supermarket, the Spanish version of 'All By Myself' from the opening credits of Bridget Jones was blaring out of a taxi window. You gotta laugh!

So, in the immortal words of Scarlett O'Hara: "Tomorrow is another day."

After a night in this four-poster, I'll be fighting fit and ready for round two, Leon. Ding. Ding.
