Tricastela to Sarria

Tricastela to Sarria

We lucked out with our accommodation today - a beautiful little place we had all to ourselves with a gorgeous garden, an oak-beamed dining room and a proper shower!

Even better, our walk to Sarria was pretty short by our standards (22k), so we finished in plenty of time to enjoy it.

One of my favourite things about our Viking (aka Rasmus) is his love for reasonably priced Cava :-) Martine, Don, Rasmus and me spent the afternoon in the garden, quaffing bubbles (we even found plastic wine glasses from somewhere) and listening to the Les Miserables soundtrack.

It's a solid way to spend time, I'm sure you'll agree.

That night we were in for a special treat. Tano was head chef (with Davide as sous chef) and they cooked us traditional paella, complete with fresh calamari.

Well...it was delicious as I'm sure you can imagine and it was lovely to see Tano in his element, sharing his favourite dish with us all.

Susanna was responsible for dessert, and well, the girl brought her A game!

She'd bought little plastic cups and filled them with juicy strawberries and thick cream for the gang.

Now, if you know me, you know that I'm a massive fruit dodger, so I mentally prepared to miss out on dessert, but I had under-estimated my new Canadian friend.

She'd heard of my fruit aversion and made me a special cup of cream and chocolate. I'll say that again. A cup full of delicious thick cream and chunks of yummy chocolate. Just for me.

I swear you can only get away with eating equal parts fat/joy on Camino! And think I can trace my deep affection for Susanna back to this very moment :-)

Later, once all the plates were cleared, Janne, Martine, Rasmus, Davide, Abdal and me sat around the dining room table, finishing off the wine and listening to the rain pounding on the roof (my all-time favourite sound).

Full tummies, full hearts.
