Pamplona to Puente la Reina

Pamplona to Puente la Reina

3.19pm: Fouteen miles in, I'm alone, I've slumped on the pavement at the side of the road, bag down, can of Coke in hand, headphones in, and I'm singing my little heart out to 'We've Got Tonight' by Kenny Rogers (don't ask).

Seven miles previously, I'd been been standing on top of the beautiful Alto de Perdòn, a hill 700m up overlooking Pamplona with beautiful statues depicting pilgrims from days gone by.

But the road down was tough going, and knowing I still had three miles to go, I needed a sugar hit to get me through to the end.

I think the Coke went to my head slightly as when I set off again, I did what can only be described a full musical theatre performance of the next song on my shuffle; 'One Day More' from Les Miserables. I used my poles as props and everything.

I thought I was alone on the trail, so I may have alarmed the Korean man who popped out from nowhere on the road just ahead.

Thanks to the magical power of Compeed, my little toe has been given new life. However, two miles from the hostel, I got horrendous cramp in my right thigh, just as it started raining.

Of course by now I was filled with the Les Miserables revolutionary spirit, so I ponchoed up and hobbled onwards, ever onwards.

How I'm actually doing this every day I don't know, but I'm going to download a musicals compilation album just in case.
